The Kamov Ka‑27 is a Soviet‑designed naval helicopter introduced in the early 1980s and still operated by several countries, including Russia, Ukraine, China, India, Vietnam, and South Korea. Built around Kamov’s trademark coaxial‑rotor layout, it was developed to replace the Ka‑25 while keeping similar external dimensions for shipboard compatibility. The Ka‑27 typically carries a three‑person crew and features fixed landing gear plus inflatable lateral floats for emergency water landings. Its main military variants include the Ka‑27PL for anti‑submarine warfare and the Ka‑27PS for search and rescue, each equipped for their respective missions with specialised sensors, fuel capacity, and cabin configurations.

This is my first time building a HobbyBoss kit, and I have to say it’s been a very pleasant surprise. The overall fit is tight and clean, the surface detailing is crisp, and the kit includes two marking options—one Soviet and the other, which I went with, Ukrainian.

To elevate the build further, I added a Brengun photo‑etch set, Quickboost resin seat upgrades, and several custom components that I 3D‑designed and printed myself. Together, these additions really helped bring out the character and complexity of the Helix.
